The Strategy Gamer Podcast #4 : Commands Ops 2

In Episode #4 we discuss the real time pause-able WW2 game Panther Games Command Ops 2.  My guest for this show is YouTuber TortugaPower. This game has one of the most innovative AI systems where instead of you micro-managing the units all you have to do is give an order to an HQ and watch as it’s executed intelligently. Plans can be coordinated, combined arms teams form, and artillery flies, all on a divisional scale with just a few clicks.

The game is available on Steam for the whopping price of $0. This comes with 4 missions. Scenario packs cover anywhere from Arnhem to Germany 1945 and are about $30.

Excellent podcast! Keep ’em coming. Command Ops 2 has been on my to-play list for a while now. This has motivated me to move it closer to the top of the list.

Thanks! Glad to hear you’re liking it. CO2 really is a fun game, would be great to see it expanded to further fronts.

Why would you buy a wargame only to sit back and watch the AI play it as you give one commander command? Seems rather boring to me.

I much prefer the old combat missions myself and panzer command; osfront. I like to control my units not sit and watch the ai play them.

Personally I play a hybrid in CO2. For units that are relatively static, say an understrength battalion, I’ll leave them with a defend order and call it at that. Other times I’ll micro-manage units in a particularly difficult offensive. I think it offers the best of both worlds, on one hand I can trust the AI to defend and react to a basic threat so I can focus on the intense action (fun). Sometimes I get burned out on the bigger Combat Mission scenarios where I have to micromanage every Tom, Dick, and Harry.
